Nice shots RW, have not done that trip for many years. As CTT says can be very tricky waters to run, lots of fast moving traffic. Great sites, when we did it last it was at night in a friends 28 footer and it was gorgeous, a little scary but sweet to see on a little boat.

You really need to know what you are doing and how to handle your boat, to be safe there.

yea, I would say that water out in front of the statue was by far the roughest....definitely what you would call a very large "confused" chop. I did that ride once in my 18' bowrider and I was not at all comfortable crossing the harbor in it. Throw in the ferry boats hauling *** all over the place and you definitely cannot let your guard down for a minute....The area they call "hells gate" where the long island sound ties into the east river was definitely interesting too. It wasnt too bad the day I was there but I could imagine that if you found yourself in the water out in that area you would be history. I only took water over the bow once when a 40' or so cabin cruiser blew past us in the east river going full tilt boogie (no wake zone of course) and put about a 5' wake right at us. I did have enough room to get the bow pointed into it fortunately.

That looks like a very interesting trip.

I would love to do that, maybe when I retire.

Oh, maybe I will start a bucket list!!!
