I may borrow your hinged hatch idea also. That gives me some good ideas for my middle hatch where the ropes & bumpers are stored.

One thing I did that really worked out well was find a 120 qt cooler that fit like a glove in the forward hatch, then cut a piece of Starboard to cover the remaining opening, curving the front edges to wrap the cooler...cooler is my fish-box/storage depending on need...
