Default Horse power

just looked at a GREAT 1989 v20 yesterday boat was in excellent shape and even ran great but it had a 140 hp johnson on it and was very slow could barely get it to plane off at full speed at 5500rpms at a cruise 4000rpms boat only got to about 18mph I ve heard you guys say a 150hp was minium but does 10hp make that much of a difference? and what hp should i be lookin for on the next one?......... really hated to let that one go

Something ain't right. Way too slow. Prop, water in hull, trim, motor height for starters.

What Seacrets said, I had a 140 Johnson on my previous V and saw 35 fully loaded. Something is very wrong there

NYMACK66 has a 140 on his V and has much better numbers than those. You may want to check and see if somebody put a V-6 lower unit on it. The different gear ratio will kill the V-4's performance. And that 140 is propshaft rated and is every bit as strong as many of the older 150's that many run on there V's.

I have a 90 hp that does better then those numbers, I would check to make sure you have the right prop. I'm running a 13.25 x 17 and get 27 to 29 MPH at 4600 rpm's
