The 140 JOHNZUKI will have PLENTY of torque if you prop it right with a 4 blade stainless prop. Randleman is VERY happy with his even with several people on board. WHy are you so dead set on having a newer engine? Newer isn't always better. If economy is your main reason I understand, but if economy can be compromised then the 150/175 JOHNNY-RUDE is a GOOD choice. It is a bit thirsty, but not any worse than a 2.5L MERC. And also remember that ONE , just one repair on one of these newer engines can buy a couple HUNDRED gallons of fuel. The 4 strokes are proving to be pretty reliable, and so have he DFI's. But parts for these newer engines have almost turned many of them into throw-aways as most people won't spend $1500 for a compressor on an old engine that may also need a $1K worth of injector work in a OPTIMAX. Or a $1K EMM in ETEC/FICHT. I run an old school engine not because it's all I can afford, it's because when something breaks(which all of them will eventually) I can afford the parts to fix it. Newer DFI 2 strokes are VERY efficient on fuel at cruise, but as you run them harder that fuel savings goes away. To each his own, but that's my opinion on the matter.

Your knowledge and reasoning is priceless, You just answer my question in regards to a re-power , Unless the EPA tells me 2 stroke is dead, I will stick with my Looper as a matter of fact I am in the market for a spare I will re-build it an have it ready for a Bolt up in a pinch if I ever have to, it will still be cheaper than buying a new motor. Plus I will learn even more building it ..

That is good reasoning, however, i have a 60 gallon tank and i want to be able to go further and not have to go through 50 gallons on short trips. Its an average of 20-30 miles where i fish a lot. Second off i have seen a few of the 140 suzukis for 6000-7000 with 5-6 years of warranty left. If something breaks im not concernd with how much it cost if it is under warranty. If i buy a new motor, that means a good number of years i dont have to guess the history on. I cant buy a johnny rude with a warranty. and if i had to go 20 miles to fish shoals everyday where the weather can change in a minute i think i would rather have that extra HP to get home quick and pay the xtra $ to ensure i get all the way home. There is a reason all the 25 commercial boats moored at the end of my road all have 4 strokes on them and i dont think its because of warranty or the cost of repair. because they surely dont have the money to spend in repairs. i guess its just reliability and fuel economy. Wouldnt the duration of time without a repair and the fuel economy 2 mpg VS 5-6mpg make up for the extra money required to repair the motor after the 6 year / 5 year warranty is out. Not tryin to pick a bone, i think this is a good arguement. Yours and mine. thanks a ton for the coments so far.

The comercial guys around me run alot of Hondas and they say its just because of what they save in fuel but remember they run a boat from sun up until 3 or 4 pm. The fuel savings alone pay for their motors in a couple of years but they also put 1600 plus hours a year on these motors. Thats why comercial guys don't get the same warranty as you would.+
