To cut to the chase, I am strongly considering a Grady 228G Seafarer, or possibly the 23 Gulfstream. The Gulfstream is really more boat than I need, but I digress...

If the day comes when you see me in the For Sale section, please forgive me. Now I will be gone...off to search the web for my new darling, and possibly to look for a 23 Coastal. :)
I've had the 24 Wellcraft and 24 Grady, but the Wellcraft had 1/3 more range on the same fuel and was much more fishable. The upside of the Grady is a compartment for everything. The Grady could run somewhat smoother upwind, but on those days you really didn't need to be that far offshore. If you switch brands, IMO don't get an old Grady before the Sea
V2 hull or the use of XL Plywood.

I always thought the Gulfstream 23 would be a really sweet rig with a pair of 140 Johnzukis (of course) on the back.

Good luck AS, but DO NOT leave us.

I have never been in the seafarer but I know the gulfstream is a HEAVY boat for a 23'. This is good thing as far as ride is concerned, not so good for trailering and fuel economy. The one I rode in often had a fuel injected 250hp yamaha saltwater series on a bracket. The motor was a little low IMO and would nearly dunk when coming off a plane. My buddy struggled to keep fuel in that boat. I'm thinking it got somewhere around 1 mpg with that set up, maybe a little better.

I wonder how much lighter the seafarer would be?

I'm with you on the center consoles because of the wind and cold factors, but with one of those really nice gunnel to gunnel CC enclosures a CC would be an awesome cold weather boat and just simply heavenly for summertime.

Keep us posted on your R & D and don't do something you might regret.
