What are your thoughts? How bad of an idea is that 225 on it? I got bigger pictures from the guy, it looks like its in really nice shape, but there is a plate on the transom.

Seems like an aweful lot of power on a 18'. Ive got one with a 150 and never had a problem but i think there only rated for a 150.

The guy said its only 50lbs heavier than a 150 of the same type engine and that the boat doesn't notice the difference.

I have serious doubts that the 18 is rated for anything close to 225hp.

Looking through the archives, it looks as though the 18 is rated for a max of 150hp. The boat could possibly handle the extra weight, but I'm not sure the extra hp is good for the transom. The extra horsepower could also be a liability issue should there be problems on the water and they find you've exceeded the USCG Ratings for the boat. Insurance companies would most definately have a problem with it.
That particular motor on that boat would be useless to me essentially devaluing the deal. It looks to be in nice shape, but unless you knew someone that would buy the motor from you and you're willing to search for a replacement, I'd say walk away.

Cool

I have the same year but in the 20" model.
My fuel tank just started leaking and I am in the middle of replacing it. By the way after opening the floor up, everything on the inside was still in pristine condition, stringers, transom, bulkheads etc....
I have a Yammy 225 on mine and it is rated for 235 hp. The 225 is a lot for my boat at 20" I would guess on an 18' it would be almost dangerous..........
