When I was in HS I drove a bus. It was not uncommon during hunting season for someone to get on the bus with a shotgun if they were going hunting with someone else after school.
They would lean it up behind my seat, and when we got to school, they would take it to the principals office for safe keeping until the end of the day. If you drove to school, you just left your gun in the gun rack in the rear window of your truck. Our school even had a shooting team. If someone didn't have their pocket knife on them, you gave them he!! about it. No one ever thought twice about it, no one got shot, or cut. I grew up in the NC mountains and graduated in 1985.
