Default Fall blackfish trip 10-24

Left home at 5am for another fishing trip to the coast on a very cold yet typical Fall morning in New England. The freshly made coffee and BE&C samies hit the spot just in time for the 2 hour trip to Niantic CT. After pit stop at the bait shop, we quickly launched the State Launch ramp.
I had my eldest son with me so the game plan was to keep him awake with plenty of fishing action which at this time of the year I say ***8220;the Race is the place***8221;:

Once there the FF lit up like a Christmas tree, showing game anywhere from the bottom and mid water column. Dropped one diamond jig and one tree way rig with a green bucktail jig, this got hit right way by a small bass; Not a good shot but here***8217;s my son hand lining the bass:

A couple more drifts over the ***8220;Christmas tree***8221; we followed with another 25 or so inch bass and a few similar sized bluefish, which were all released. It was 8:30 then and the tide was near dead. As planned, we moved to blackfish grounds; Fishers Island NY.

We join the fleet of boats parked on this area dropping the hook in 25 feet of water over a very prominent rock pile. The action started in no time and the blackfish war begun. Here's a few pics of the exemplar fish of the day:

The captain:

Most of the fish caught were about 5 lbs, two were 15 inches and five fish tipping 8 lbs.

On the way to the port we stopped at the Race for another rendezvous with bass and blues. We saw some other guys netting some nice bass, we did not. We ended the trip hooking up with more small bass and larger blues, both diamond and chartreuse green bucktail jigs produced hits.
The mess at home:

Another great memorable Fall day on the water with my eldest son.

Hey Willy, you have brittanies? I have a 3 year old male brittany named Henry. I do not hunt with him, but he came from very good hunting blood lines. The people we bought him from have many brittanies, and they take them out to Iowa for pheasant hunting. I can tell Henry would be a heckuva hunter if given the chance. This is our second brittany (our first was a female), and I am not sure I would ever have any other kind of dog. The brittany temperment seems just right, and if you can keep them active, they will always be happy and loyal. There is something about their eyes that just seems to ooze intelligence. Henry is a tri-color brittany, mostly liver and white with some orange markings around his face and the orange color eyes.

Good for you...

Oh yeah...thanks guys, it was a blast to spend the day with my son, catching over fourty keeper blackfish made the trip even better, shoot...we were catching fish on as little as two crab legs on the hook

nice jpb Bass, those are good eats to say the least. Nipper I have two Brits from great hunting lines. They are great hunting dogs, I have hunted over great dogs of every line and enjoyed them all but Brits and German Shorthairs are tough to beat for all around man and dog days afield.
