make more hp and are more fuel efficient than a cross flow of the same displacement. Most of the modern 2 stroke engines( less than 10 years old, are cross flow).
its actually the other way around, new engines are loopers. and i wouldnt say crossflows made more ponies. compare a fastrike 150 to a gt 150 johnson. fast strike looper will ahniliate a cross.
