Ok, I saw something on OutboardRepairs.com that sounds interesting. The guy asks how the pump should work with his 1990 loop charged 120hp Evinrude. Here is what he says:
"When you first start your motor is it normal for the water pump to have to "prime up"? My tell tale doesnt flow until about 30-40 seconds after I crank it up." Then some smart guy answers: "It may take a short while for the tell tale to operate on a looper. The water cavity is very large and takes a few seconds to fill. Your water pressure gage should start working almost right after the motor starts since it is T'd into the supply. " But here's the thing - the little "T" he mentions - well my motors aren't hooked up and I can see where the previous owner cut the hose off the bottom of the "T" which evidently is where the gauges are connected. I'm thinking I should do this: 1) Plug the gauge part of the "T" off for now. 2) Put the lower unit back on. 3) Crank her up and let her run at least a minute on the muffs. By George some water should come out, don't you think? I'll post back and let you know. Blue
