| Mounting fish finder x-ducer

I have installed my new fishfinder - A Garmin 160 and I am looking for opinions on where to place the transducer on the transom for the best results. I have attached a few pictures which show where I had the previous x-ducer mounted (red circle). I never got good results from it on plane, but it was a cheap unit, so I don't know if the x-ducer placement had much to do with it. Any opinions / recomendations are appreciated.

If it were me, I would move it over to the left a little and put it behind the strake. This way it would be reading a flatter stream of water instead of having the water hitting it at an angle and possibly creating turbulence.

I mounted mine where Ferm was talking about, a little to left right were the blue streak hits the flat spot. I have had mine on plane and had no problems with readings. This also makes it easier to adjust to level and get the water line centered since you can hold a level against the bottom of the hull and have a straight line to adjust too.

I had my Garmin 160 in the place you have in red. I had same results, at slow speed and drit it was great, could watch your line jigging off the bottom! But get going on plain and gone! Sometimes it worked and sometimes not?? Try were they say, might be fine? won't know unless you try!

Here's where mine is mounted. Works good here. The one on the left is for the speedometer.

2 things: If you put trim tabs on then I doubt if any transom mount will work on plane. I have a I/O with trim tabs and my would not work anywhere on the transom, because of the Turbulence; I opted to install a thru hull 20dg offset. It works all the time, on plane or idling. Just my 1 1/2 cents worth, (I'm not rich enough for 2 whole cents).
