Default Motor test question

Last time I ran my V-20 it started to miss and hesitate. So I took apart and rebuilt the rochester carb ( 165 Mercuriser).
I'm wondering how high can I rev it to test whether it misses before putting it back in the water? I know with an outboard it ain't a good thing to do. I don't wanna overheat it either but, would like to test it for a few minutes first. Any thoughts TIA. ???

Btw...the points and plugs are new and set properly and the fuel filter is clean...as is the gas in tanks.
