| New Old V20 In Michigan

Well here she is the new to me Wellcraft V20, looks like early 70's What do you guys think the vintage is. Has a 165 Merc I/O and new fuel tank. So i got that going for me. She is a little ruff around the edges. Floors seem solid there is no hatch for the fuel tank, Transome sounds good with a mallet. will drill some holes for further inspection. Time for the power washer to meet old boat. So now where do I go from here. has rebuilt lower unit & new bellows. Engine has some water in it. Should I go thru the old 250 or find a good freshwater 165 round here? howdo you tell the engine year?. Is there a serial number directory? Anybody have a good 165? Is that the best power plant for her? I want it to be a solid fishing boat to runaround on the great lakes. Last edited by Union Laker; 09-14-2012 at 12:21 PM. |

A i/o center console V20? Your kidding me right? That is a badass combo. Does the engine run? Look on the transom on the starboard side below the rubrail and there should be a hull identification number. Two of those numbers are the year. It will start with a 7. Yours is probably a 70s model it could be early 80s. What are your plans for the boat? Keep the motor or go to outboard? Welcome to wellcraftv20.com

Thanks Jason I was wondering it it came like this or was a a home-do job. Looks like a tuna clipper with that high transom. The guys all said it was a MAKO. Title said it was a 20' 1972 Boston Whaler - I had a couple twin NOVA'a & Love Wellcrafts. Best thing for it is tyo go thru the 165. or better yet anybody got a good one in the shed? |

I could not find one anywhere that is why I thought it was a Home Do Job. So they actually made these things. I love the freeboard on her! Time for the To get started on a. Repower options are rebuild the 165 or find a nice long block. anyone have any bright ideas? This is my first CC could not afford the 254 MAKO yet. LOL She looks to be pretty seaworthy good enuff for the Great Lakes. |

Looks like a serious detailing and it will look good. That's easy enough - one day and won't look like the same boat. Best of luck with it. |
