Hey skpablo, If you are not going to be anchored at night, you need a 135deg rear facing white light. Anchor lights need to be 360. Most time Coast Gaurd will want to see both in case you get stuck out at night.

probaly not legal on our boats, but a lot of the guys here have the stern light mounted on the top of the engine cowling.

next time you think you are going to get boarded, stop and take off you cowling like you are broke down, they usually turn 90* and go elsewhere.

I just use one of those 24' removeable with one of those dome caps over the bulb and its fine for fishing. I have found the taller the pole the more people tend to grab it for balance and of course they snap it off getting into the boat.
