Speaking of those used motors Skools , have you ever heard anything about those rebuilts that come from those big rebuilding shops, theres one in PA. I see their engines on ebay once in awhile. Blackbeards or something like that. Their prices look good and the refinish

yeah i wonder how their's are i feel good about mine but then again i rebuilt them so i know what i have too. Wiseco Pistons are definitly the only way to go. Especially in an OMC product. They oil better and hold up much better under heat and RPM's.

Willy,
I purchased a used 1997 Johnson from BLACKBIRD IND. in Pa. I had the motor three years and it still runs great. I saw the same thing on e-bay but was a little leery. I called the company and spoke to the boss and took a chance. The guys quite a character, straight shooter about engines, no B/S. The motor was shipped professionally and the paint job looked great. I would buy another except I can't find anybody to hang the engine.

Thanks DI, I too was impressed with how the engine appeared, looks like they take their time with the outside was wondering if they did the same inside, if you think about it that is one h@ll of a way to repower, if you do not have Skools mechanical training or facility's or time. Hey Lord Skools you ever figure how much you have invested in a total rebuild by time you add up all the parts costs and the value of your time. Bet you its up there.
Tell you what I'm thinking, find out what my 1999 johnson ocean pro , installed new in 2001 and very low hours is worth and repower with a v6 johnson 150 from Black Bird. Might be affordable even for me. I think I would be using same controls gauges etc.

I am running a 175 HP Johnson ob on my 1985 CC.

Near Top speed (never maxed it out) will do 36.5 knots/42 mph with full fuel/ 2 people, and too many fishing rods!!! Does this sound in line with others here????

Have trim tabs, they help, especially on long runs with a chop, they certainly can soften the angle of entry.
