| Big problem and need advice

The mechanic officially pronounced my Yammie V6 150 as DOA. I won't even begin to tell you what I have spent buying her, getting her hauled to California, upgrades, repainting.... The boat ran for a total of ~15 miles before the old outboard croaked. I'd love to repower with a 4 stroke but that ain't gonna happen any time soon. I have the opportunity to buy another late '80's V6 Yamaha for ~ $600. Problem is that it's a 250 hp instead of a 150. Seems like overkill to the point of being life threatening. I see this as a temporary fix until I can get 'er repowered in the next year or two. I need some opinions... Is the 250 hp feasible or am I gonna get myself killed?
