I called the guys at http://www.ptprop.com/.
Talked to a Bill L.
He took all my info and said something about a 8% slip, and said that's not bad. He recommended I keep the prop I have.

The 44 mph reading from my GPS is in MPH not knots - thanks for bringing that point up though - I have been known to to do silly things like that.

jackman, that's surprising...that's a LOT more HP for only 2 more mph than my Honda 150...did PT ask or talk about max rpms from Honda?...

reelapeelin,
At first he said I had the wrong prop.
He said the big Hondas like big diameter props, and that I should probably go to a 15 or 15 1/4 " prop. Then he said the pitch would have to be reduced to 15 degrees - he said I probably wouldn't like it because the top speed would go down to about 40mph. Then he did some calculations and said I was getting only 8 % slip, and that I would be ok with the prop I have. He did say that prop was great in rough seas. I was out 2 weeks ago at Key Largo and was trolling in 5' seas - the boat and motor were great.

I'm sorry, but you should be running much better than 44 mph. I have a 150 Merc and I turn a 14 1/2 x 17" pitch and I run 42 mph. I run a four blade prop and I may lose 1-2 mph but I come out of the hole faster than a three blade prop.

I agree with you 100%. I took the motor in for 2 recalls. The mech said he noticed something (in the engine) that was keeping the engine from going to full throttle. I will have to talk to him and find out exactly what that was all about. Now that I think of it, when I have the level at full throttle, it's very close to the glove box - maybe that is keeping the engine from going to full throttle. I will check into both things.
Thank y'all for your help!
