Default Refit update, fuel tank needed

Hello all! The refit went well, after a few hiccups and difficulties keeping the work on track, and the boat looks beautiful. The Yamaha 200 hp HPDI is a wonder! I would like to post photos on the gallery -- can anyone tell me what I need to do? I have lots of digital pics, do I just attach them to an e-mail, do I have to re-size them, etc.

During the refit they pressure-tested the fuel tank and they said it seemed to hold pressure. However, after the first 7 hours of use I topped off the tank and guess what? STRONG gasoline fumes in the bilge. Upon close examination, a dime-sized hole in the top of the tank, under one of the wood members going across the tank. At least one small hole in the aft section, too. I guess the wood and foam gave the impression that it held pressure. I need a new tank! I called Marine Liquidators (after seeing them in an older post) and they are closed for summer vacation until August 17 -- it must be nice! If anyone has any other sources, I'd love to hear about it. Tank measures 43"L x 31"W x 7 1/4" H at the sides, then angles to fit the "V" of the hull, with a flat patch on the lowest point 6 1/4" W. I think it holds 55 to 60 gallons.

Any help with either the photos or the tank would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the great posts.

Follow-up: Wellcraft gave me the number for these folks as soon as I mentioned fuel tanks: Florida Marine Tanks in Miami. It seems that they have all the original specs for these tanks, and they build them on order. I was quoted $485 before shipping, and a wait of 4 to 5 weeks. I am now doing my own spec sheet and am going to see if I can have it built locally.

Marine Connection Liquidators called me back. The closest they can come to my tank is 33"L x 31" W x 11" H. It is a 40 gal poly tank. I am very reluctant to cut my fuel capacity by a third, but if anyone else out there is looking for a 40 gal, they have at least one in stock.

Pipe Dream, Power Boats Reports Had article about a Co. www.oceanlinc.com portsmouth RI. 401-683-4434 that has access to over 700 factory molds for tanks up to 180 gal. When I called them they could n't tell me the tank for our boats but do list very exact measurments and have a 60 gal tank that sounds like it's our tank. See my post fuel tank replacement 7-09-04. Also i've heard nothing but good things, fast and great people to work with about Atlantic Coastal Welding Inc. in N.J. 1-800-434-tank. They will build a tank any size- any shape from alumn. to U.S.C.G. Spec . Crusher

First time to comment on this great forum.
I've been rehabbing my 74 cuddy and I located replacement saddle tanks from RDS in Perry Florida
e-mail [email protected]. They had the exact shop drawings for my saddle tanks as they were the original supplier to Wellcraft from what I can tell ...maybe they can help you too.

PS to all. I've heard groans about the saddle tanks and am curious what specifically y'all are seeing.

Thanks again for a great site

Thanks one and all for your help and suggestions. I have placed an order to have a poly tank built to match my exact tank specs. When it comes in and all is confirmed to be OK, I'll let you know who it is and how it went. Who knows? If this works out, we will all have a good source for replacement tanks.

Good luck, Pipe Dream!!

Welcome, SeaRover!! I have Alum. Side tanks and other then having to relocate the Vents so they stoped leaking fuel all over ther place I have not had a problem with them.
The only down side with them is weight change from side to side when one is getting empty.
I fixed this buy adding 25 gal poly were the old I/O use to be. Now the side tanks are aux tanks.

Yes I have converted my V20 from I/O with a bracket and a 175 hp Yamaha. You can see it and a lot of nice boats from this board in the photo gallery.
