I think people have gotten a lot smarter with Ebay auctions. Most people use sniping tools these days to buy things just seconds before the auction closes. So now the whole point of having a longer auction is to simply get exposure to as large a group as possible so that they will all try and outbid each other just seconds before close of auction... Nobody wants to show any part of their hand. The whole system has it's strong and weak points.
