I disconnected the fuel hose from the engine or maybe the water seperator and ran the hose out the drain in the bilge area. Pumped the the fuel ball and it started draining right out. As far as cleaning out the old tank cant help you i had to replace mine, it leaked slowly. If your tank has a sticker that has Perry, Fl. on it, it's the original tank. Mine leaked on the bottom of my tank smelt a hint of gas down in the bilge area. Put a large bolt in the gas line when you disconnect it and run it thru the drain to your holding tank. Good Luck... Z
