For all those bottom painters out there. So whats the trick to finding your waterline mark when applying bottom. While at the boat yard yesturday, a few boaters were saying how I should "still" bottom paint my hull and paint all the way up to the pin striping. But the water line doeasnt go as high as the pin striping. If I did bottom paint he, I would prefer to have the hull anti-foul paint right at the water. So there's gotta be a way to figure out your water line and also get a straight even line. Will I be the only guy out the trying to Chaulk a line evenly all the way around my boat ??? ;D ;D

Hammer...is your boat gonna spend a lotta time(stored) in the water, tied at a dock...or will it spend most time on trailer??...if most time on trailer, there's really no reason to bottom paint, unless I'm missin' something... ;)...

I can just see you in the boat at the slip hanging over the sides drawing a line! Then he gets it out and "what a minute...its higher now." ;D

Reel, boat will be on the trailer most of te time. What I want to do is dewax te entire hull, do all the repairs, add a coat of Interlux Interprotect 2001E and repaint the hull white.
Being a bit pressured to just paint the hull with antifoul. I guess you can apply it in lower temps, then waiting for warmer temps to paint. Think I'm against the clock here. Te boat was lifted off the trailer and placed on 3ft. jacks. This was all done will no charge involved, but the owner doesnt want the boat sitting in his boat yard forever either for free. I could simply do the hull repairs and spot paint, but figured this was the best time to knock out all of the hull work since she is on jack stands. Lord....or Stinky, please send me some warm weather !!

is your boat bottom coated currently? if not don't bottom coat it. That stuff's good for 24/25 ft boats and up due to they stay in the water more usually. This is your boat right?
Don't bottom coat that boat it's a Virgin Hull!!! ![]()

If I had a Naked bottom like your boat I would NEVER NEVER paint it!!!
That is like painting it pink or something! If it is going to stay on a trailer or rack system you don't want it or need it!! My boat has 20 coats of crap on it and I am not ready to deal with the striping of it. But when I do get it done it will stay white! We have had this talk here before, there is a paint you can put on there that will look great and will last like iron, Do a search on bottom paint here I am sure you will find it. But unless you keeping the boat in the water 24/7 don't get pushed into something!!

I second (or third) that! Don't do it! I have a friend that keeps his on the trailer. First thing he did was bottom paint his virgin hull. Then he was trying to figure out how to get water line stains off the side of the hull just above the water line. Some guy online said, "muriatic acid should take it right off". Well, he was right, but it also took off his new bottom paint :o

Because I have access to an inexpensive slip ($210.00 / year), a free ramp, and a trailer, I keep my boat in the water most weekends from May to Nov. and during the week the boat usually stays on the trailer. My boat has never been painted, and I plan to keep it that way. Paint is just extra work. Don't do it just cause you can. Only do it if you have to.
