One thing that comes to mind is being sure the gaskets are correct. I did my impeller recently with a full replacement kit and there were a lot of spare gaskets - I caught myself getting it wrong a couple of times. Comparing every detail of the new with the old ones helped me.

Yep, maybe that's what it is. I got some days off coming up I'm gonna drop the lower unit off and check it out. There was a lot of gaskets in the kit. I noticed the base was hard to get in place too. I feel like my problem is with the pump. Ive put kits in before and never had any trouble. I used a GLM kit and the base looked a little different.I wish I had used a OEM kit. I'll know next time! I have a manual and watched a few videos. Maybe i'll see whats wrong. Thanks guys.

Well. I got to it today. Pulled the lower unit off and pulled the water pump apart. Everything looked good except for the impeller. It had some small slivers of rubber hanging off of it. Don't know what happened to it. It was installed correctly with plenty of lube. I took a piece of 5/8 rubber hose and attached it to the water pocket tube up in the upper section, removed the short hose between the heat exchanger and the riser and blew through it easily blowing all the water out of the heat exchanger. Put the pump back together with new gaskets and impeller and mated it back up to the upper unit. Filled it back up with oil and hooked it up to the water hose. Started it up and by the time I got to the back of the boat it was pumping like crazy! I guess the brand new impeller had failed. Its all good now!
