Along with running the engine, since you have the stats out already, now would be a good time to test them. Put them in a pot of water on the stove. When they open take them out and while they are still hot place a long piece of string in the area where they opened. As they cool they will close and capture the string and hold it tight. Now take a candy thermometer and put it in the water (after it's cooled), then put the t stats back in the water, holding them by the strings so they don't touch the bottom, and turn on the heat again. When the water gets hot and they start to open they will fall to the bottom. Read the thermometer at that instant for an accurate reading of when they are opening and compare that to when they are supposed to open.

Good advice, I will do that, the salt water does a job on those thermostats

change the impeller....even if its good, you need to remove those bolts every year or 2 before they seize.
I know its painful to throw away a perfectly good impeller but it has to be done.
When you get a $25 oil change at 5k miles you throw away perfectly good oil....

just change the T stats while its apart...what maybe $50 a pair, why waste time boiling them... and they'll have new gaskets.

I'd also back flush the engine through the t stats for good measure.
I do my water pump ever other year at least.
