Part of what's interesting is the EFFICIENCY you're able to achieve.......fastest speed meaning getting most from the hull, engine, prop, engine height all together. Lowest amount of drag and maximum push per horse power. Is that a stock engine, and what's the actual hp rating at the prop ? What prop are you running - size and pitch ? |

Current Prop is a Quicksilver 14.8 x 21p. 5900 RPM limiter 58.1 mph
With the setback I have the motor as high as it will go and maintain water pressure. My spare prop is a Tempest 14.5 x 23p and is the fastest prop I have, light load turning 5900 rpm 60.1 mph. The motor is a stock 250 XS Merc. I think 250 is about where it is at for hp. The old 250 EFI had a better power to weight ratio so it was faster, retired because it used twice as much fuel. The best I ever saw was 63.1 upwind, down current with the 23p Tempest on the limiter. It dawned on me later that I could have had a 2 to 3 MPH current that day.. None of these top end numbers are very efficient, lots of prop slip. My MPH could be much better if I shed the T-top and baitwell/leaning post combo. That has got to be costing me some efficiency.

Definitely faster without me.
300 has been considered. Wonder what a 280 would do with the right prop? That would be interesting especially with 2 hung back there.. Hang em right on the transom. I am fairly sure twins would negate the effect of the round keel and reduce the propensity for chine-walk. Spare, 2.4 what? Twin Bridgeports would be ERA correct.. Cool would be the Twin Towers of Power 1500xs.

I keep wondering what twin 1150's would do (knowing I could later swap in bigger powerheads) but honestly I think I'd rather just have a much more modern engine even if I didn't get as much top speed

Ridge, you said the boat ran 48 with teh 2.4 200, what prop were you running on it at the time?
BTW, if stumble across a twin of my brown stripe 200, i might have to get a bracket and run the pair, it would be fun. Marc posted some video of his Seavee running across the harbor running round 70, those choppers he's running make a nice rooster tail |

17P Quicksilver to about 6100 RPM 48MPH IIRC. (Don't tell Ozzie) I posted it way back when.. 5800 with the 19p Quicksilver at about 46mph. The motor was sound when he got it. LOL!
