Problem is ...........the V's only rated up to 200hp.
So, I suppose you have to be an " outlaw" to run with more hp. The most powerful 200 outboards are the etec HO and the Merc Optimax, both producing well over 200 actual hp at the prop. Genie Ayer's boat with the etec HO I believe he said runs about 52 mph WOT. Now as for inboards..........who would know how much hp ? I'd really like to see more video of the V that was running about 70mph........was porpoising a bit, but I bet tabs would fix that issue. |

What about a hopped up 280hp 2.5L Merc? Leave the 200 Cowling on and nobody would ever know. The V20 my trim tabscame from had a worked on Merc 2.5 and was running 55.

How fast is too fast for this hull ?
Since we've seen the video of guy running over 70mph, and just porpoising a bit.....I'm thinking maybe 80 or so........before even straight line flat water running become's truly " iffy." At some point the hull might even go airborne, then tumble, spin, break up, and that's it. Yup, this is contender for the most rediculous posting on the site. |

I think 80 is doable. I know we could hit it in the v20, but 70 is plenty in this boat. Plus, not very often it can be opend up. BUT, it gets great milage

If we can get some smooth water there, and get it opened up, I will take more videos of it for you. It runs a Bravo 1 24 pitch 4 blade prop. If your on lake erie, and see a mid 80's v20 with a yellow outdrive on it.....beware :) |
