OBD2 was started in late 94 on some GM vehicles, and mandated across the board for ALL vehicles sold in the US for the 96 model year.

unless there is something wrong with the 05, I think you will like it better, I've got a 99 and a 03, as good as the 99 has been to me, the 03 is that much better

I say drive both at LEAST 30 miles slow and fast... gas em hard... the hardest I will ever drive a vehicle is likely the test drive (within reason) and look at both VERY closely
Compare book values and in the end, if they are both valued the same as they are priced, buy the one in the best condition/ drives the best for you.... my bet is the newer one but if it's ragged out and the older one is all around in better shape a 98 is no slouch. The 98 will be a vortec multiport injected engine and they are quite a bit better than the old TBI engines which were still pretty good. |

My main concern for the 98 would be rust, esp the brake lines.

I had a 97 K1500 which was very similar to a 98. I would go with the 05

I have a '96 Yukon. Replaced everything but the gas cap....and I've got the traditional basketball sized rust spot above the passenger's side of the front windsheild. I still like it tho.

Yeah... we have salty roads here but I forgot how MUCH salt y'all have up there.... The newest vehicle I've ever owned is my 99.5 dually... the only rust on it is a paint chip on the hood that has surface rust and a couple more on the roof where it got scratched but again only light surface rust.... been meaning to take care of those.... all of the underside looks almost new at 330,000 miles..... To me a 98 is still a pretty new ride but I guess up there it's a rusted hulk.... sad really
