I always wondered what was different about a 3227 and the 3228UL.
They are both 10 micron and 60 gph with same threads. I know that the 3228UL comes in the kits with the METAL bowl. The metal bowl is UL listed and is required for mounting in a close engine compartment. The 3227 filter comes in the Kit with a clear plastic bowl. From what I can tell the replacement filters are interchangeable, assuming you are not putting the plastic bowl in an engine space. I have used both on my old Merc 150 and now on my Suzuki 140. Sometimes one is sold out or even cheaper than the other.
