I have a mercury 150hp o/b and I use the racor # 3227. I have the racor with the clear bowl that threads onto the filter so you can see and drain any water.

Regards

Carl

DItto. Works great.. but you should still change the filter element once a year..

I 100% agree with destroyer on this one, While my v sat for 2 yrs before i bought it i kept seeing chunks of rust in my bowl. I thought where the heck is this coming from? I changed my filter and looked at the old one and was shocked at the rust in that filter. Obviously from sitting but after a carb rebuild it could have made a mess. I highly recommend the racor filter with the glass bowl to anyone .

This has always bugged me. Why do different outboards require different spin on filters? Its mounted in the boat and fuel flows thru it. Simple right? So why would a Mercury require a different filter?

Well, the most obvious reason is that they want to sell you filters, so they make them OEM. But truthfully, I think you're right ont the money. Most any filter, as long as it filters to the same micron number and as long as the flow rate is the same should work just fine.
