As long as they don't get in the way, I also like the idea of cuttin' clearance holes thru the top of the rod box and just let 'em drain into the boat...

What about a rubber cap on the top? Though I guess that wouldn't work if a rod is in there. But they do sell the caps at West Marine. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...classNum=50844
