Gunnel mount rod holders is this normal on the v. The new angled gunnel mount rod holders i have hit the tops of the rod boxes just below them, then i looked at the old ones and noticed that they were very short, this must be why my rod boxes are cracked just below them, The rod butts must be hitting them. so is this just the 89 or other years. i need to do something about this before i repair the boxes :head: |

I have actually in the past cut about 1" off of rodholders and then drill out for a stainless thru bolt to except the gimble butt of the rod. |

Never noticed if my stock ones were shorter than new ones but they all do have a pin/rod/bolt across the bottom as a stop for the rods (and securing the butt if it has the cut outs in them.) Sounds like you should do what Kracker Jack suggests and cut them shorter and add a ss bolt in the ends. |

I'm trying to seal my entire underdeck for zero water intrusion, so instead of putting a SS pin or bolt across the bottom I'm going to put rubber caps (available at Home Despot or Lowes in the plumbing dept) on the bottom of all my rod holders. I really don't care if they fill up with water. (That's what they make turkey basters for) It's water that won't be going below my decks and saturating the foam. |

Yeah Destroyer, no idea why WC designed the V21 that way. No way they did not realize it would be a problem. I am going to do what Reel did - he attached a plastic thru hull fitting to a rubber bearing buddy cover, then connected the bearing buddy cover to the bottom of the rod holder using a stainless steel clamp. Then simply connect a hose that runs back to the bilge. Perfect solution IMO. I just ain't neva got around to it! Plus now that I have a dry place to store the boat it isn't as big a deal. Here's the link to Oz's post on rod holder drains: http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-...ml#post2913074 |

rod holders The rubber plumbing part you can use is called a Gem Cap (Home Depot) I am actuall thinking of cutting the top of the rod boxes and sleeving the rod holder through it. it will only extend down an inch or so , you wont see it and it will for sure drain on deck when those stupid rubber caps break . What do you think :head: |
