If you are talking about vinyl striping then the 3M magic eraser is the SHIZNIT YO!
It's a gum rubber wheel you chuck up in a drill... It rubs the stripe off without hurting the surface below.... It takes the glue off to. I have also used a heat gun but often they leave the glue residue behind which is not much easier to remove than the tape. I tried all sorts of stuff but nothing compares to the 3M product above.
