My family goes to Holden Beach often, my folks have a place there, it is nice and quiet, not too crowded except for holidays, and is close enough to MB or Wilmington if you want just a little action one evening.

I know at HB you can rent a shack (cheap) or a 5 million dollar house (not cheap), but reserve soon cause the shacks go fast. Probably the same at OIB, Sunset, Oak Island.

I agree with all the others too, you can't really go wrong on the NC coast in the summertime....or any other time really.

As you've read, it'd be hard to go wrong anywhere along the NC coast...from Kitty Hawk to Ocean Isle is about the whole stretch...heed the best advice here and make a decision and BOOK IT!!...

Just came across this thread, I grew up on the NC Coast and now live in Myrtle Beach lol.....

If your bringing your boat... The only choice is Atlantic Beach, NC...... If your not boating and your just wanting a small beach town, Ocracoke is great, Emerald Isle is good as well, and the last one i would say is Sunset Beach

Im kinda partial to OBX. Its only about one hour and 20 minutes south of me in virginia beach. I was basically raised there. We would would pack the boards up every weekend in highschool and going surfing Kittyhawk,Rodanthe,Frisco. You can also enjoy some great surf fishing off the beach when the boat is not wet. Kinda beware though they were hit pretty hard during IRENE especialy on the Island between Rodanthe and all the way around the corner to the Village in Hatteras. I personnally love the place!!! I have a couple pictures of me surfing down there 2 years ago and also some pictures of the breach north of Rodanthe caused by IRENE.

We try to go to Hatteras as often as possible and love it. We have friends with a house on Oak Island, and you can't go wrong there. The one place I didn't see mentioned, which may be our favorite, it Topsail. Simply an awesome place to visit.

I think Reel was implying that there are plenty of great places to bring your boat in NC, not just Atlantic Beach.
Personally, I don't think any of them compare to Charleston for boating
