Do ya see any crust around the motor and bracket?...checked the compression?...the shift shaft corroded?...foot oil clean?...clear w/no metal shavings...do controls come w/it?...SS prop?...if all the above checks out, I'd offer him 1800 for it and settle on 2250...

I am with reelapeelin $2000 would be a fair price if it meets the conditions he said. Ocean Runners are Johnsons, I personally would rather have a Yamaha (not meant to offend anyone).

Yes, it's a Johnson, in pretty nice condition. Compression is even and at 80psig +/- across all cylinders. But it's an opti and I've heard nothing but bad about them, so I passed. Since I bought the boat he offered it to me at $2000. I'm going to convert my 91' Merc 200 to a 25" shaft and hang that on the end.

A Johnson opti ...no such animal opti would be a mercury. Guess it was a FICHT and if she is still running it would have had all the updates. The eagle series OMC ocean runners are great motors, ficht series have a lot of controversy.

I called it an Opti, not the dealer. He just told me it was an optical system, so I shortened it to opti. Didn't mean to imply that it was a Merc Opti. My mistake. In all cases it's a 150 and I want as 200 on the boat, so it's kind academic. It was a temptation since the boat is already all set up for it. Hopefully I don't wind up regretting my decision. He did say it was not a FICHT, and it's not a looper.

Ok, lots of confusion here
Fist of all, it sounds like its a Johnrude Oceanrunner series with opical igniton. Pretty good motor, lighter than most. Its whats referred to as an Eagle Series. Its not as big or heavy as the 200/225 loopers. Bad part is parts are starting to dry up for them as Bombardier is starting to reduce inventory of older motor parts. Yamaha made s Saltwater Series and used carbs or the OX type fuel injection. I don't think this motor matches the details you've given. If the motor mentioned is a nice clean fresh water motor, then its worth that much at a premium.
As far as you going back merc, I've got a 5" extension and several 25" lower units laying around. Once I get this one boat in my yard finished, I may be able to free up some parts if you need.
