There should be two wires if I remember correctly. One coming from the ignition, and one ground.
Put hard power to the solenoid. Take some battery cables, attach them to a battery, and touch the ground and power cable coming out of the primer solenoid to the respective battery cables. If you hear a click, then you know the solenoid is good and your problem lies in your connection somewhere between the ignition and the solenoid. This is how I bench tested mine before I replaced it.
