I think that was Wellcrafts standard design for a while....somebody will tell the years for sure....I agree would be the least desirable option.

Yup, that's the way not only Wellcraft, but most all boat mfgrs made 'em before somebody came up w/a self-bailing design...well, the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria were self-bailing decks...just took modern boat-makers a while to apply it to our size boats...and it IS a superior design, no doubt...but remember it's only a scupper-clog away from sinking, too...

The twin 20 gal under-gunwale tanks were used 70 - 77...no flotation in the hull to speak of and I recall reading here re peeps using multiple 1,000 GPH bilge-pumps as standard install...
