Welcome to the site....cant wait to see what you got!! Like Blue said you got the granddaddy of the V-20....it's the V-20 form and function I think that has us all crazy about our boats not really that they are Wellcrafts.

I found Skool's rebuild thread and I can't see anything that does not look like the boat I have. That thread has helped a bunch and I feel confident there will not be anything too unexpected now (should I make the go ahead decision). The only shock would be to find a single piece of wood that is not completely rotted.

Does the boat have any value as a "collector's item" ? car values have gone wild, but I have not paid much attention to the marine area.

Not to my knowledge on the collectors items question. The undeniable volume of $$$ it takes to put one back into tip top shape will unfortunately overshadow the selling price in the end IMO. But then again I am jaded. Having said that, You can't put a price on fun...
