I know how you feel, but its like our business ... when I give ppl estimates they look at me like I have three heads.... then you try to explain the cost of materials..... its outta control. the prices of the composites make my head spin, and anything petroleum based seems to go up once a month.

Agreed on the composites, you ain't kidding. Unfortunately for us, SYP 2x8 and 2x10 are at a 30 year low. There are so many people out there quoting rock bottom it is difficult to get enough mark-up in commodities to make a buck. 10% gross will get orders and keep the lights on but we are really only moving dollars, pushing paper and keeping everyone here employed. Truckloads of 2" framing lumber that used to cost $9K or 10K are now $5k. Sorry to highjack I will step off the soap box now.

About the 35hp motor. I assume tiller? What is the shaft length? I have a friend looking for a 20" remote. He wants elecric start and power trim but won't come off his wallet for new.

the "marina" I went to is actually a marine repair shop that is probably 6 mile away from the water. He's been there for decades and they are a well known and respected business. It is a top notch place and you pay a premium.....their shop rate is 120 per hr. and they'll rob you with a smile. I personally rarley go there for parts or repairs when needed....I was just there for a thermostat and that shop is closer than my usual place. Kenny and Ridge, yes, price for materials are out of control, however, the two decks I just completed, in timber tech, the material cost actually came down from the last time I used it. It was not the top of the line XLM or Earth boards....it was "value plank" in grey , twin finish. In the same condo complex I did two or three decks there two years back and I paid approx. 2.47 per lin. ft. at that time. I just ordered 800 lin. ft. and it was 2.08 per ft. I think TT is just phasing it out.....who knows. And Ridge, the motor is a 15" shaft, no trim/tilt pull start [with lots of compression]two hands needed but it usually starts on the first pull. I'd be looking for somewhere around 350$-400$

Kenny...would you go to work every day if there was no profit in your business?...of course not...profit is the driving force behind this country's economy...I wouldn't be in the restaurant business (or any other) if I wasn't anticipating a profit...it's GOTTA be there for a business to stay open...the manufacturer has to make a profit, distributor (sometimes two of these) and then the place you buy from has to profit from the sale...sometimes those profit margins get too high and peeps stop buyin and the margins get cut and the price goes down...
That's the way it is, so when you can dodge margin along the way, you've done good...like The Pubah did when he wore his V-20 T-Shirt to The Red Barn...

Reel you are 100% rite, Im all for everyone getting a slice of the pie, I guess I rant some times .... and I go birzerk when I see those remodel shows on tv and there's no possible way they can do those remodels for the costs they show on tv.... they should tell the viewers that there getting there materials donated or that ppl are give there services to be on tv... to many ppl cant see that,, and when they get an estimate for a bath or kitchen for 30 or 40k they say,, we seen something similar on tv and they got more work done then we want for 15k
I was on a remodel show one time "renovations" with Bart Shadlow and we had a stair guy say if I can be on tv I'll install the spiral stair case for free.... I said ok then when filming was done the stair guy packed his stuff and left and was never to be seen again .... and left the stair half done and I ate the rest of the install..... for the viewer the price was rite ....haha oh well Im done ranting about money....
