Hi and welcome to the forums...Congrats on the new boat.
Measure from the top of the transom where the engine sits to the bottom keel of the boat. That distance is what your engine is. (I think, and I may be wrong) that all V20's are set for 20" engines, unless there is a jackplate on the transom or unless the transom has been raised. You're correct, a 150 is the engine of choice for these boats, BUT 200's and 225's are not unheard of. In fact, there are several members here that run them on their boats, including this writer. Get what you can afford. and remember... We love to see projects...it gives us all ideas, and at the same time we can give advice easier.

Looks like a terrific buy for $750, nice trailer, nice bimini. Good luck with it. Glad you found this site. Wealth of knowledge here (not much from me--but that's why I am here)!

Hey Cape Cod V20 - you and I have the same motor. What year is yours? Mines an '04 I bought new in '05. I probably have plus or minus 500 hrs on it. I just had a fuel pump go out and have had to clean the carbs due to a trashy fuel tank but other than that the motor is great and pretty quiet for a carbed 2 stroke. Very nice looking boat!
For those that might not realize, the v21's they made later on have an entirely different 25" transom setup that adds more cockpit space. Check it out: ![]() ![]()
