Excellent advice. I like Rule pumps but I don't care for the float switches with moving parts.

I know there's other brands but my advice would be to get a "Bilge Buddy". It's a lifetime 100% solid state water activated unit. (oil or gas will not trigger it) It has two probes that extend down from the unit and when water makes a circuit between the probes the unit turns the pump on. It mounts flat on the transom or a stringer.. just have the probes set for just above the suction screen of the pump. It can be used with or without a manual override switch. I've had one in my other boat (22' Cruisers Inc.) for two years now and it's never failed me...works perfectly. Comes with a 7 year warranty.

I agree that Rule pumps are the way to go, although you can usually find good buys on Attwood pumps in Wally World for smaller boats (750 GPH sizes).
