Need a new bilge pump
 

I need a new bilge pump. Any suggestions as to brand and/or flow rate?

biggest one you can fit in the hole, use straight wall hose to oversize thru hulls. I have three 2500 gph pumps in my V, one fwd, one primary, one back up, all three hooked to a manual switch and a dedicated line straight to the battery thru a fuse and float switch. If you are wondering just how much you need, next time your at the ramp, leave the plug out and back the boat in till right before it floats, see if you pump can keep up with the water coming in from that small hole

Ditto on what Spare says...it is the one place where redundency is a good thing.

Excellent advice. I like Rule pumps but I don't care for the float switches with moving parts.

I know there's other brands but my advice would be to get a "Bilge Buddy". It's a lifetime 100% solid state water activated unit. (oil or gas will not trigger it) It has two probes that extend down from the unit and when water makes a circuit between the probes the unit turns the pump on. It mounts flat on the transom or a stringer.. just have the probes set for just above the suction screen of the pump. It can be used with or without a manual override switch. I've had one in my other boat (22' Cruisers Inc.) for two years now and it's never failed me...works perfectly. Comes with a 7 year warranty. :clap:

I agree that Rule pumps are the way to go, although you can usually find good buys on Attwood pumps in Wally World for smaller boats (750 GPH sizes).
