I used something very much like those snap toggles when I installed a new pedestal seat on my old 1972 speedliner. Worked great, and mine were made of stainless steel. They come in a variety of sizes. I think I got them through West Marine.

Just remembered the name of the product--it is "Toggler" and they are available in stainless steel from a variety of internet sources. Overtons and West Marine have them, but they are pretty pricey!
