Does anyone here know the depth of the floor tank in an 87 cuddie V20?

The depth of the tank is not an issue but the length of the pick up tube is since that is what ya need to go by.

On my 87 the sending unit was a magnetic round disc that screwed onto the top of the tank mounted part. Like a cup shaped area, as the float went up and down in the tank the magnet moved on the sending unit which was connected to the guage..
I took of the magnetic part and cleaned the bottom and the cup shaped area, cleaned the connections and was back in business.. Is there an access hatch or port over the connections? I'll try to take a picture of the setup later for you.. Not sure if you have the same kind of setup or not... |

Thanks to all for responding. I intend to do this project after the boating season is finished. Right now I am still using the boat and currently have a full tank of fuel. I really do not want to open tank to do this now, as it may just ruin my Striped Bass season (just my kind of luck). I know that this is a relatively easy fix, but as stated, with my luck, who knows. I will wait until after the season or maybe even until spring to do it. This is the reason for my questions because I figured that you guys have probably done this before and in fact already know the dimensions of the tank (60 gallon, in floor at the stern), allowing me to order the parts now, so when I open it up, I already have the replacement in hand. Rabbitfish, I hope that I have the same setup as you. That would be real easy to do. I do have an access door right above the sending unit, so it should be an easy fix. I will await your response and hope that I do have the same setup. Thanks again to all.

I used this one in the link and it was pretty easy to install. You just remove the old unit, measure the tanks deep the tank, and then have to make one cut and put it together. I think it took me about a 1/2 hour but I did measure everthing twice before I made the simple hacksaw cut.

Stillrunning, That is the exact unit I used in my 28' Silverton. I must have checked 100 times before cutting, but still I didn't get it right. It served me well anyway, as I always had an idea what was in the tank. Besides, I guess it may just be me, but I don't trust fuel gauges. Normally I would just install a Floscan, but $$$ is tight this time around. Thanks.

This is what it looks like with the sending unit magnetic part attached..... Jan 19, 2009 (10).jpg After removing the magnetic part of the sending unit... It is just a bowl looking area that the magnetic part sits in. When it gets dirty it does not make good contact and will read incorrectly.. |

MC, NO WONDER YOU'RE A GOD, MY GAS GAUGE HAS NOT WORKED FOR THE LAST 20 YRS. i JUNT FILL THE TANK EVERYTIME WHEN I RETURN, THAT WAY I AVOID HUMIDITY IN THE GAS AND ANY WORRIES WHEN I GO OUT.
