Hard core alcoholics are MASTERS at hiding their addiction...the fact it was a vodka bottle indicates this as vodka is much more difficult to detect casually...alcoholics truly believe they can handle it...gross denial if ever it existed...and sometimes spouses don't see it because they don't WANT to see it...more denial...

MMAD has done us all a favor by making the penalties higher for alcohol related traffic events (they are not accidents) ... but I don't know how to stop something like this...do we all have to start breathing into a tube attached to our cars before they will start?...sounds heavy, but it would have saved those 8 lives and many more we'll never hear about...and that's the problem...we all pay a price for the stupidity of others...

Charlie is spot on in both posts. So sad that she had these young ones in the car with her. Certainly makes me tear up as well.

I know breathalyzers would be a pain and certainly an inconvenience, but none of us has the "right" to drive drunk. I know some folks can hold their alcohol better than others, but too many people can't and even those who can are still very much open to making a deadly mistake.

I think some states/municipalities have done that...unfortunately it wouldn't have saved these people as this gal was clean...

I think Reel meant that she was not a "repeat offender" so if the law was to install a device in repeat offenders vehicle it would not have helped. Making it mandatory on all vehicles....now that would have worked
