I just dont get it...

I'm really having trouble wrapping my head around this one....I'm not sure how far this news story traveled from the tri-state area but here's the long and short of it.

Sunday before last a woman driving a minivan is on her way home from camping trip. In the van is herself, 2 of her children and her 3 nieces. At 1:00 PM she calls her brother and says she's feeling dizzy and doesnt feel to well. He supposedly tells her to stop and he will come get her but for whatever reason she continues on. At 1:35 she gets on a highway going the wrong direction and has a head on collision with an SUV killing herself, 1 of her children, her 3 nieces and 3 men in the SUV. 8 people total.

So the whole next week the news is covering the funeral of her and the children, (all beautiful pigtailed girls) and then the 3 men and the mystery still remains why did she get so disoriented to get on the highway going the wrong way.

Well the toxicology report comes out yesterday and her blood alcohol level is twice the legal limit she has significant levels of THC in her body.

WTF? It was only 1:00 in the afternoon on a Sunday. What the hell makes somebody have the need to get high and drunk on a Sunday....she must have started earlier in the day meaning she's drinking and smoking on a Sunday morning knowing you are driving yourself and 5 children home???

Is it possible she got really smashed the night before and all this was still in her sytsem the next day? Thats what I hope to think happened although it didnt really do any of them any good either way....

Dont get me wrong I've done some stupid things in my younger days (and a few in my not so young days to be honest) but damn....

Usually when I hear of similar tragedies I can sometimes relate to what the mistake was that the person made and how I thank god I was lucky enough to never have had similar outcomes really out of shear luck, but this one just defies logic.

Indeed, what a terrible thing for her to have done. No doubt, the saddest part is all the children who paid the price in this tragedy; they had no option in the matter, but she did.

The THC could have been present in her system from the day prior (or even many days prior) but for her BAC to be twice the limit, she had to be drinking that Sunday morning. Consumption of alcohol can obviously cause so many poor choices, including this tragic choice.

Agree w/ Nipper. What doesn't make sense is the phone call to the brother. It makes it sound like a sudden unexpected onset. That is just terrible.

Very sad indeed, mixing drugs with alcohol is deadly she was clearly not in her right senses.
I question the folks actions who called 911 observing her erratic driving people needs to more involved especially if innocent kids are involved.
I have numerous accidents here in Florida folks driving on the wrong side of the roadway, Good old rule still stands if there is a solid yellow line on the right side of the road you are driving on "YOU ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE" I use this rule when in doubt ...

very sad story for the children. the woman probably lived her life with disregard for others and now it finally caught up with her and the innocent involved. reminds me of my uncle who was killed recently in new orleans. 4 thugs stole a avalanche by gun point then when they were spotted they fled from police and when taking an off ramp off of I-10 they lost control and killed my uncle instantly, who was waiting at a stop light while on his way home from out local minor league ball game. he was about 1/8 mi from his house.

No hour of the day, or day of the week, or even an opportunity to pick up the kids is off limits for a drunk to drink...

I've been watching that, too and it's as sad as they come...

just keep gettin weirder and weirder....either the toxicology report is wrong or somebody aint tellin the truth....

cterrebonne 08-06-2009 02:48 PM

very odd, very very odd.

They found the near empty bottle in her car. She was clearly tanked behind the wheel whether it caused the accident or not.
