1984 235 needs to run 89 octane at a minimum and like high test
Well I learned something there! I've always heard not to run high octane in the 2-strokers.

I believe if you read the book for you motor it will say run high octane just stay away from the ethenal. look for the stiker on the pump that says might contain 10% ethenal if i does don't put it in. but I might not really matter but why take a chance. changed water pump yesterday redoing wires today they were really bad hope to be back on the water by tomarrow maybe this evening. james boyd

Normally no - is it peeing water with good pressure? Are you sure you got the water tube mated to the pump output? if so, you probally messed up the exhaust gasket on the lower unit and its leaking.

If it were me I'd drop the lower unit and verify - better safe than sorry.

still heating up at 30 but figured out the problem. it has a custome build sea drive allum box on the back which is square. well if your going fast say 30 or more since the box was not tapers like the ones you can buy it directs the water away from the motor so it cannot take in much water mostly air. bad news I have to take the motor off and have the box rewelded. good news thats a cheep fix probably 40 to get re welded after I cut it up to add a taperd bottom to it. the good news is my gf loves the old boat as well it is nice to ride in just wish i lived near the ocean to really get some use out of it .
