Your trying to run the baits as close to the rocks as you can without hitting the rocks. You will still loose some rigs but now your talking $4.00 instead of $30.00. I use the Mojo's in the ocean when the big striper are moving down the coast. If you go to the local tackle shop they can hook you up with what you need and they can show how to rig stuff up. I highly recomend building a relationship with one shop and as they see ou more they will offer out more info. One other thing to remember. If your trolling the 3rd and 4th if you look at the building on the 4th island you just want to be able to see the side facing the ocean. This should but you just on the side of the rocks and does help produce more fish.

This guy has a site and has podcast on striper fishing and if you scrol down you will see several.

we use side-planers down here...sounds like a good application for 'em against the rocks up there as well...

3 ways here just like said, I use a lighter line on the sinker so it will just break off with out losing everything else.

He was talking about trolling over the tunnels which are covered with rocks. They run from 10 to 70 feet under the water so you have to ajust your line as you fish them. He is probably letting out his lines and then just trolling but with the different depths its easy to loose the rigs. Is the function of the side planers to spread the lines out from the boat? I've heard of them but have never seen them used.

Yeah, side-planers spread away from the path of the boat...I think it's one reason they are so effective is because they travel a line outside that of the boat...we use them w/live herring easing along w/electric trolling motor so can pull 4 lines...two on planers and two straight off the transom..they're also effective w/lures when trolling w/gas motor...lure or bait can be way behind the planer or close to it...I've seen stripers actually strike the planer-board itself!!...

One thing about planers...since the line goes out to the board and then straight back, this can sometimes diminish the pressure of the line's hook-setting ability...so when a fish hits a planer line, I always wind down and SET it hard w/a little heavier drag...

That might be the reason thay have not caught on in this area. People tend to flock to a few different spots this time of year and if people would use those types of riggs it would become one big mess. Its gets pretty bad now so I hope those don't catch on.
