evilgli, our first trip out was to the 4th isl. at dusk, lost 2 mojo rigs ($30) along the rocks, trolled and casted the pilon`s on the incoming tide with no luck, so 1st night out was for practice.
We went again Mon. night but stayed around the Lesner Bridge managed 1 keeper @ schoolie size.
Look`s like the wind machine is not dying down until Sunday, hopefully we can get her out then also.
How you doin this season? , any luck?

this is my first seaon striper fishing, so i'm still learning. been out to the hrbt 3 times in the past month and only brought 2 fish home the first time we went. working on saving some money up now to get my enclosure repaired here soon so i don't freeze my *** off out there. have not made it out to the cbbt yet, but hoping to soon, but i know nothing about that area out there. so hopefully it wo't be too hard to figure it out.

You do not want to troll Mojo's around the rocks because as you found out those rocks are rig takers. Get some large sinkers and either bucktails or sassy shade and make up a three way. Use about a 3' leader for the sinker and about a 6' for the bait. You need to hang on to the pole and reel in line and let out line to keep it off the rocks. Your trying to run the baits as close to the rocks as you can without hitting the rocks. You will still loose some rigs but now your talking $4.00 instead of $30.00. I use the Mojo's in the ocean when the big striper are moving down the coast. If you go to the local tackle shop they can hook you up with what you need and they can show how to rig stuff up. I highly recomend building a relationship with one shop and as they see ou more they will offer out more info. One other thing to remember. If your trolling the 3rd and 4th if you look at the building on the 4th island you just want to be able to see the side facing the ocean. This should but you just on the side of the rocks and does help produce more fish.

This guy has a site and has podcast on striper fishing and if you scrol down you will see several.
