Most cat 2 storms don't make a huge storm surge, but this thing is so massive and pushing right against the gulf stream that the entire gulf of mexico is experiencing storm surge. My area of FL is several hundred miles away from the storm, yet we have already experienced 11 feet of storm surge in some areas. The wind and rain doesn't seem to be the major threat with this right now, but the storm surge is creating alot of problems.

Well latest update. My job shut down for the weekend so I ended up coming down to Corpus Christi late last night. Everyone else was heading north so there wasn't much traffic going south. Over hear in Corpus there's a 3' storm surge or so but the city is high enough from see level its not a problem. It even looks like we might not get much rain or wind here either. Anyways, looking at the major surge in Galveston that going on right now there's going to be lots of deaths.

Local Houston TV channel being broadcast on Direct TV just reported teenager washed off of end of jetty at Corpus Christi and drowned...over course of day, I think several more will occur...

I had a couple big branches down at my house and the fences blown down but no real damage. Still no electricity and probably not for a while. Going back to work tomorrow at one of our locations that does have electricity. Fortunately we had a cold front blow in and cool things down a bit. It feels nice here at my parents house in south texas but I'm sure houston is more humid.
