Yep, Lee your right!! Me either. I guess it must be the solenoid. Iv checked everything else. I unhooked the small wire to the solenoid and jumped it to make it crank and it did the same thing. Iv got an old starter ,Ill rob the solenoid off of and try. Advance said it only has a 1 year warranty on marine starters. Thats the last time Ill go there!!! I learned my lesson.

You pay 5X the money for marine parts, and most all marine parts are only a year warr. its a rip off!

Its funny, Ive worked on starters and generators and alternators for years and have never had a starter to stay engaged like this one.I dont see why it could be the solenoid but if the plunger is hanging up in the solenoid I guess that would keep the starter motor running on after I let off the switch. Maybe if tropical storm Hanna dont kick our butts tomorrow Ill check it out.

Well, after the storm blew by I went out and pulled the starter off. I pulled the solenoid off and replaced it with one off of my old starter and now it seems to work fine. I guess thats what it was. Ill try and take it this week and run it and see how it does. Hopefully it will be ok.

I don't think Advance sells marine starters and you really should only use a marine starter.

Yea, they had to order this one and its a true marine starter. It was remaned by CLI marine Div. They put a cheap a$$ solenoid on it though, the rest of it looks OK. Ive replaced the solenoid and now it seems alright!
