with the engine off, and the drive trimed down, put the drive in fwd gear, spin the prop counter clockwise as viewed from the back of the boat till it locks in gear, then stand on the prop blade( port side of the drive) to try and turn the proop against the motor( still with the engine off), if the propspins freely, look at teh prop shaft while its spining to see if its spinning with it, if it isn;t, then the prop hub is bad, if the prop shaft spins with teh prop, check behind the engine for small rubber pieces(it looks like tar) or posibly aluminum shavings, indicating a bad engine coupler.

unfortunately spare, i'll hafta do the repair while the boats in the water.
gonna wait til low tide and swap out the prop with the oem aluminum.
if this doesnt fix (temporarily) the problem then my season is done.
and that will suck. phukking suck.

Repalce teh prop like you said, if that doesn't fix you, you're coming out of the water regardless

Sure does sound like the prop to me especially that part about the RPM's shooting up. I know a good green jello diver that could probably swap that prop in a few seconds blindfolded with one hand tied behind his back...
